THE GOOD-LOOKING GIRL
I got down from the train
In a funny old town
And I followed a street
That went rambling down.
I came to a door
That stood open wide
And I heard a soft voice
Saying “Come on inside”
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys.
So much for the pleasure and pain.
If I had the days of my youth to spend,
I’d spend them the same way again.
There was a good-looking girl
And when I went in there
She gave me a welcome
And set me a chair.
She said, “I’m alone,
My man’s far away
And he’s not coming back
For many a day.”
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys. etc
She gave me some cake
And she gave me some wine,
And I thought to myself,
“Now I’m doing fine.”
That good-looking girl,
She let down her hair
And I knew I was caught
Like a bird in a snare
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys. etc
I knew I should go,
But she held me tight.
“Stay till the morning!
Stay till daylight!
Stay with me, darling,
There’s no need for alarm.”
Her arms were inviting,
Her mouth it was warm.
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys. etc
‘Twas late when I heard
A step at the door,
There quick as a flash,
I was flat on the floor.
A fierce-looking man,
As strong as an ox
Shouted, “Get walking
Or go out in a box.”
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys. etc
That good-looking girl,
She laughed at my plight;
Her laughter pursued me
Into the night.
When I caught the last train,
I was all bruised and sore;
I knew that I’d never
Go back there no more.
Refrain:
So much for the follies of youth, boys. etc
That good-looking girl
Will never grow old,
And I don’t regret
That I was so bold.
No, I don’t regret
The day I went there,
And I’ll never forget
How she let down her hair.
I got down from the train
